ASTM F1505 | GOOD
The American Society for Testing and Materials drafted its own standards in 1994 by using many of the same requirements as the International Electrotechnical Commission. Unfortunately, while it’s popular with products made in the United States, it doesn’t meet the same worldwide standards as other certifications.
IEC 60900 | BETTER
The International Electrotechnical Commission requirements cover dimensions, guards, and much more compared to ASTM F1505. It also specifies testing procedures to ensure that anyone using these tools is protected from accidental contact with voltages up to 1000 VAC. Tools approved by the IEC are recognized globally.
VDE | BEST
VDE certification manages to go above and beyond the IEC and ASTM specifications. The symbols stand for the product's safety regarding electrical, mechanical, thermal, taxological, radiological, and other dangers. In addition, it conforms to the VDE Testing and Certification Institute regulations and complies with the safety requirements of guidelines from around the world.
